Playoff Leadership: Intro

The NBA playoffs start this weekend, and I’m going to do something fun and silly and hopefully insightful on this page for the next few weeks: a leadership-focused scouting report of the playoff’s biggest stars + my take on their closest executive comparisons. I hope you’ll have fun following along!

Every star in these playoffs is effective. But they’re effective in fundamentally different ways — and the levers map onto organizational leadership pretty well (or at least, I’ll try to convince you they do).

So over the next several weeks, I’ll profile one player at a time, pair them with a leader from business, politics, or history who shares their style, and break down their “leadership archetype,” including both the strengths that make them great… and the trade-offs that come with them.
